Heart shaped diamonds can be a romantic choice for an engagement ring. This posting is in response to a reader’s question about the first heart shaped diamond listed in particular, but I hope it will prove useful to others as well.
This 0.70 carat F-VS1 heart shape diamond is a great buy for the price at $2,550. It faces up very white, and is exceptionally “eye-clean” for a VS1. Moreover, and this is very important with a heart cut, it is very well proportioned. Many heart-cuts on the market are too wide proportionally. This one, and the other two I have chosen, all have ideal, or very close to ideal proportions.

Moving up in price is this 0.76 carat D-VS2 heart shape diamond. This is a very nice stone, but for a stone that is only .06 carats larger, it costs an additional $680 dollars. It is graded whiter than the first stone, but doesn’t appear to truly be so. Also, it does have some very faint visible inclusions.

Again moving up in price is this 0.90 carat H-VS2 heart shape diamond. If buying a stone closer to the one carat size is more important to you than color, this is a nice buy, as it is also exceptionally “eye-clean” and well proportioned. Otherwise, the first diamond is graded, and appears to truly be two grades whiter than this stone.
