Not everyone wants a plain, old, white diamond. This week I’ve found some truly covetable colored stone and colored diamond engagement rings.
This very sweet antique, Art-Deco looking wedding ring set is actually a new reproduction piece available from Apples of Gold. It is shown with a blue sapphire set in 14K white gold, but is also stocked in white or black diamond, emerald, and ruby. (White topaz, aquamarine, and tanzanite are also choices, but I do not recommend these stones for engagement rings as they are all too soft.) This set can also be ordered in yellow gold, 18k gold, or platinum by request.
($975 as shown with 4.5mm blue sapphire and 14K white gold from Apples of Gold)
Looking for something more rustic? This ring is hand forged from 18K recycled yellow gold and features a lovely rose cut sapphire in the prettiest shade of pale purple.
($1590 from Melissa Joy Manning)
I love this combination of rose gold with princess-cut black diamond center stone and white diamond accents. But if you would prefer something different, Gemvara allows you to customize every aspect of your engagement ring from metal type and color, to type of center and side stones (and they offer lots of non-diamond alternatives, too). Warning, playing with their customize tool which instantly reflects any of your changes, can become addictive.

Or, for example, see the same ring in 14K white gold with a ruby center stone. Which one do you like better?

Somehow this engagement ring from Diamond in the Rough manages to be dainty, feminine, modern, and a little bit edgy all at the same time. Each of their rings features a one-of-a-kind rough diamond, but the asymmetry of this yellow diamond drew me to this one. Prices range wildly depending on the size of the rough diamond center stone and metal type. This one is slightly over a carat and set in platinum.

This “Bea” engagement ring by Anna Sheffield is the color of sunshine, and just looking at it makes me happy. For a little added uniqueness, the side trillions are set inverted.
($14,500, 1.70 carat light yellow color radiant-cut diamond center and side trillions set in 14K yellow gold, from Anna Sheffield)
